Hello world.

As you know, I have been away for a while and now am back it. I have posted a couple images in the last 2 weeks or so but have noticed that my photos are being 'down sampled' by the Blogspot image up-loader. As a result the images I upload look way less than optimal. This is defeating the purpose of even going through the effort to share what I see through my lens.

I have started a new website that will contain all my previous photos as well as everything to come; all with crystal clear quality.

My next post will be to launch my new site.... stay tuned!

Mountain in the frost

This is a photo of some frost found on my living room window.

I was struck by the prefect mountain vista: Fog at the foot of the mountain, snowy slopes, and an ominous sky. If you look 'through' the picture you'll see snow on the ground outside with real trees off in the distance.

Did you know:

A "mushroom" is actually only the reproductive part of the organism--in the way an apple is only the fruit of the whole organism, the apple tree. The main part of a mushroom is underground or running through dead wood, and consists of a web or mat of hairlike fibers called a "mycelium" (the plural is "mycelia"). The mycelium is present even when there are no mushrooms.....

Evidence of the mycelium is sometimes found at the base of a mushroom's stem; there may be mycelial down or fuzz where the stem meets the ground. The presence or absence of basal mycelium is sometimes important in the identification process, as is its color. Mycelial cords or strands, called "rhizomorphs," are found in some species, and their presence often helps in identification decisions.

This picture was taken this past weekend on a canoe trip in Algonquin Park, Ontario. It's a 13min exposure at roughly 11:00 pm. The stars are smudged because the earth is turning. The 3 long streaks you see are Jets flying at 30000 ft.

This arachnid met me in my hallway on the way to bed. I'm 6'-3" and he's 2" and he's the one who charged at me! Needless to say I jumped back. I captured him in a cup and on 'film' then released him in the front yard. He's actually quite goofy looking. Not scary at all.....nope, not scary.

I was camping a couple of weeks ago at "Sharbot Lake" with my family and this was almost a nightly occurrence. The forest floor was covered in fireflies. It was awe inspiring.
